PARSONS BUSINESS FOR GOOD PROGRAMME BACKS MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT FOR 2023
PARSONS BUSINESS FOR GOOD PROGRAMME BACKS MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT FOR 2023
Corporate activity across the globe has transformed in the last decade to reflect the responsibilities that businesses have in playing a positive role in their local communities, and in considering the environmental and social impact of their operations.
At Parsons, we do several things in acknowledgment of our impact in each of these areas:
- Our green credentials: transition to a paperless office, the installation of recycling bins and the recent launch of our Cycle-to-Work scheme.
- Fundraising efforts: for national events including Comic Relief and Children in Need.
- Supporting local causes: such as the Business Club at St Leonard’s Hospice in York and local schools and colleges. Most recently, representatives from our Audit team visited Holmfirth High School to meet aspiring finance professionals and share their career experiences. In December our team even got together to construct almost 400 Christingle oranges for Kirkheaton Primary School!
The Parsons Business For Good Programme
This year, we have pushed these efforts to the next level, by launching a brand new initiative. The new Parsons Business for Good programme has seen the entire Parsons workforce invited to nominate and vote for a single charity to support throughout the year, with a calendar of activities coordinated by a dedicated committee.
Just before Christmas, our team nominated 14 worthy charities. The nominees ranged from national and well-known names such as the Motor Neurone Disease Association, to local organisations including Wakefield Hospice, The Clothing Bank and Read Easy Leeds.
Announcing the 2023 Parsons Business For Good charity
Winning a majority of our team vote, Macmillan Cancer Support is our charity for 2023.
Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 this figure will rise to 4 million. Macmillan Cancer Support helps everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, by providing physical, financial and emotional support.
Our Business For Good committee is already busy making plans and organising fundraisers. We started with a guess the Parsons baby competition in February which challenged our team to correctly identify 19 colleagues from their baby pictures.
What our team says
I voted for Macmillan after hearing a Radio 5 Live interview on the current hardship individuals undergoing cancer treatment have faced during the cost of living crisis and their need to be both warm and well fed to have the best chance of defeating cancer. Macmillan have done, and continue to do, excellent work in this area providing support with basic needs as well as wider support around a diagnosis. Andy, Audit Senior Manager
Working for a company that supports charities is heartening. Knowing that they are sharing their success by helping others. I have personal experience with Macmillan, Parson’s charity of the year 2023. They provided invaluable support to my family with palliative and end of life care for my mum. We lost mum to Cancer in July 2022 and I can’t express how much we value the dedication, support and compassion that was shown during the hardest time of our lives. They are Angels in disguise. Sue, Payroll Manager
It’s great to work for a firm that provides the platform for us to come together and give back to the community, as I think we have a greater, wider reach as a team than we would as individuals. Furthermore, Macmillan is an organisation that provides support against something that affects so many of us – either directly or someone we may know. Adam, Audit and Accounts Trainee
