Parsons life for a university accountancy work placement student – part 2
Considering a university route to a career in accountancy and finance?
In July 2021 we welcomed Mia, into our team to undertake a one year accountancy work placement with us as part of her degree. This month we caught up with her, to see how she’s getting on. Here’s what she said.
I’ve spent six months supporting the Business Services team at Parsons
I’ve really started to get to grips with working independently on the analysis and preparation of accounts. Since our last instalment I’ve also submitted accounts to Companies House, which has given me a huge sense of achievement. I’ve gained enough knowledge that I can support others with some aspects of all of this work and that is really satisfying.
The team has grown considerably since I joined in July 2021
Everyone gets along really well, there’s a ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to teach and learn so I’m never afraid to ask for help. I’ve also received some specialist training in bookkeeping which has given me fundamental knowledge to better understand the work I’m doing. Accounting and finance develops fast so there’s always something new to learn and a need to keep on top of the latest guidelines, rules and procedures. The team embraces that and there’s a real sense of passion and pride about nurturing and developing the knowledge and skills we share.
I can genuinely say that this is a great place to work and I love it
In terms of contributing to my degree, the discipline of committing to a job and working alongside qualified and experienced accountants on real client work will benefit me immensely when I return to university. The responsibility of supporting real businesses and clients, and contributing towards the difference that Parsons is making, is sure to give me a great start in my future career.
